Murders at Karlov Manor as Told by Flavor Text
"All will soon be made clear, but I can give you this: our killer is here with us, in this very room." ~ Alquist Proft
Proft brushed past the guards and introduced himself as "the great Detective Proft" without a hint of irony, then identified the culprit within minutes.
"Why would a little thing like death stop me from running the Syndicate? I'm going to be here for a long, long time."
"Never parley near high windows." ~ Teysa
"It's not a matter of what I know. It's a matter of making it worth my while to tell you."
Parties at Karlov Manor are strictly invitation only.
In a city as old as Ravnica, history takes on a life of its ow ~ even when you least expect it.
"The desperate will tread unexpected paths. Be prepared to follow." ~ Tam Sennic, Ezrim's second-in-command
"Call the Boros if you want. While they figure out if they have enough people to send a patrol, I'll be out clobbering the lowlifes who robbed you."
"I was never here."
Teysa trusts only those for whom money has no meaning.
"If you're thinking only one step ahead, you're already falling behind." ~ Teysa
Kaya clung to the cords of the barrier ward with all her might, trapping the thrashing dryad like a fly in a spider's web.
"It's amazing how efficient a detective you can be when you're not slowed down by things like self-preservation or walls."
"You there, halt! The gallery is closed. Wait—what are you doing?"
A rare and beloved exception to the Agency's "no one is above suspicion" rule.
When cunning fails, there's always violence.
"You know, Proft, I've done a lot of questionable things in my life, but helping a pompous detective save lives is a new low, even for me."
"If the perfect evidence appears at your feet, your first task is to rule out misdirection." ~ The Ravnican Agency of Magicological Investigations handbook
For all their differences, Kaya, Kellan, and Agrus Kos agreed on one thing: none of them would rest until Teysa's murderer was brought to justice.
He makes sure no one sets foot in a fresh crime scene—not even himself.
"I appreciate working with associates whose greatest loyalty is to the job at hand." ~ Skurad of the Foundway Associates

By the time they noticed the missing vials, Glovax was three fathoms away.
"You must have known all those lies would catch up to you eventually."
"It's a rare privilege to investigate one's own death."
"There can be many motives and opportunities, but there is always only one truth."
Each time he replayed the attack in his mind, new details emerged.
Proft lit up like a man who had just been handed a glorious and unexpected gift. "I know who's responsible for this," he said. "And I can prove it."
"Half the city had motive. Time to narrow down who also had the means and opportunity."

"Bring up the particulars from yesterday's altercation, and enhance."
"Merle had the motive, but Blovinac was the one caught with the murder weapon. And who was the seven-foot-tall hooded figure? This case is a mess!"
At Proft's command, an ethereal model of the ransacked workshop sprang into being, every detail perfectly recreated. He'd missed something—he knew it—but what?
"Hm. That's weird."
Proft had never been a by-the-book investigator, but even he never expected to find himself breaking a notorious assassin out of a maximum-security Azorius holding cell.
"Well, cause of death seems pretty straightforward, but what else can you tell me, friend?"
"Never rely on secondhand description. Always review the memory yourself." ~ Lazav

With their guild shunned for opening the doors to Phyrexia, some among the Golgari embraced their status as pariahs and took out their bitterness on all who crossed their paths.
Obtaining evidence through the "proper" channels can take weeks of paperwork. Sometimes justice just can't wait.
"I'm afraid your investigation has reached a dead end."
Determining the culprit was not difficult. Getting him to stop committing the crime long enough to be arrested, however, was a massive challenge.
"Wait, stop! I've been framed! Extremely convincingly!"
Etrata evaded the Boros arresters and Azorius lawmages, but not even a master assassin could give Kaya the slip.
